About

Rayan holds a Ph.D. in Applied Economics from the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV), having received a scholarship from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). He was a visiting foreign researcher during his doctoral period at the Centre for Policy Studies (CoPS), Victoria University, Melbourne, Australia, supported by a scholarship from the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES).  Possesses expertise in the treatment and processing of microdata in Brazilian databases (POF, PNAD), as well as in the construction of input-output matrices and the development of computable general equilibrium models. His central research theme revolves around public policies and social programs.

Fulfills key roles as a coordinator, researcher, and data contributor for the Brazilian Economy General Equilibrium Analysis Project (PAEG). He designed the DAYANE model, an analytical general equilibrium model for the Brazilian economy using GEMPACK, featuring a disaggregated labor market across Brazilian macro-regions. Additionally, he developed the PAEG-Cerrado model, a general equilibrium model for the Brazilian economy using GAMS, which disaggregates the Cerrado region and allows for the analysis of Co2 emissions and land use issues.

In 2018, he was honored by the GAMS Development Corporation and the Center for Global Trade Analysis (GTAP) at Purdue University with the Meeraus/Rutherford Scholarship Award. This recognition acknowledges his status as a promising young researcher contributing to the use and development of software intended for the operationalization of Computable General Equilibrium Models.

Rayan is actively involved in research on mathematical methods in economics, focusing on computable general equilibrium models, demonstrating expertise in the management and analysis of economic data. He is actively engaged in research projects, including those at the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA - Cerrado), the Northeast Development Superintendence (SUDENE), and the Climate Change Policies for the Maritime Sector (CLAMARINE INITIATIVE).
